Braxton Records and Jail Contacts
For a sheriff-created report or records request, confirm the current custodian before submitting anything. The county directory identifies the Law Enforcement / Records Division separately from the tax office. The county and state directories have conflicting sheriff names and main lines, so verification is especially important.
| Office | Contact and use |
|---|---|
| Braxton County Sheriff’s Office | 300 Main Street, Courthouse, Sutton, WV 26601; main page number 304-765-2830. General sheriff contact. |
| Law Enforcement / Records Division | 505 Main Street, Sutton; 304-765-3308; Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Confirm a records request, custodian, cost, and submission method. |
| Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility | 1255 Dyer Hill Road, Sutton, WV 26601; 304-765-7904. State regional jail custody and DCR intake context. |
| Braxton Circuit Clerk | 300 Main Street, Suite 101, Sutton; 304-765-2837. Court record and expungement information. |
The directory lists $15 for accident or criminal reports and $25 with photographs, paid by cash, money order, or business check. It does not state a universal booking-photo fee or response time. Confirm the cost for the particular record.
Where to Direct a Record Question
Record ownership determines the next contact. The official source can provide current procedures and explain whether a record is maintained or subject to a lawful restriction.
- For a recent regional-jail admission or current custody question, start with the WVDCR offender-search landing page and CRJCF.
- For an arrest narrative, contact the sheriff, Gassaway Police, Burnsville Police, WVSP, or the agency that made the arrest.
- For case status or disposition, use the Magistrate Record Search and the appropriate clerk.
- For a state-prison record, use WVDCR’s prison search path; it is separate from county jail intake.
- For a federal or immigration custody question, use the BOP or ICE locator appropriate to that separate custody system.
The county booking-record resource explains the search sequence, records-request wording, and the difference between an admission, current custody, release, prison custody, and court status.
